Founded in 1852, Rochester was originally a small town known for its lumber industry. Though still small with a population of just under 3,000 residents; surrounding towns like Grand Mound and Centralia continue to flourish, fueling the growth and development of the town.

Bountiful in rural beauty; the Chehalis River flows through Independence Valley making a popular swimming spot for locals in the summertime, and you won’t find better blueberries than the ones at Black River Blues, blueberry farm. The town also celebrates its Swedish heritage with a yearly Swede Day Parade, with the court made up of local school district students.
Rochester is also a great hub for getting to popular destinations such as the surrounding Capitol Forest, The Chehalis Reservation, and Westport, a great spot for clam digging! You can even get a one day fishing license at the local IGA, talk about convenience!
Now, you may be wondering what a Thurston County area is doing showing up on a Lewis County. Rochester is more similar to Lewis County being just across the county line (some parts of town are in Lewis County and vice versa for Centralia), than it is to Thurston County with much of the population center starting about 20 miles to the north in Olympia. So, I’ve always considered the town part of Lewis County, but more like a step-sibling.
